The design matches the sounds nature: the screen is divided in narrow triangles resembling a saw which produce the desired sounds when pressed. The individual sounds are short but pressing several keys together or sliding a finger along the screen yields a longer sound. You can also extend a sound by holding a finger on the relevant key.
